Clinical Review of Breast Cancer

Abstract
A clinical analysis was performed on 76 cases of breast cancer which were confirmed by histopathological examination during the period of 6 years from Aug. 1982 to Jul. 1988
All 76 cases were femal and the most prevalent age was 5th decade(28 cases, 36.9%). The most common initial symptom was palpable mass(90.7%) and the most frequent position was at upper outer quadrant(51.3%). In histopathological examination,
infiltrating ductal cancer was the most common type(72.4%).
According to TNM system, the most common stage of breast cancer was Stage II(42.1%). The most commonly used operation type was modified radical mastectomy (81.6%).
As for the axillary lymph node status, there were positive in 43 cases (58.1%) and false positivity and false negativity was 13.6%, 46.2% respectively in correlation between clinical and histological diagnosis.
In review of correlation between number of metastatic lymph node and recurrence rate, the more the numbe of metastatic lymph node the higher the recurrence rate. In patient with no metastatic lymph node, the recurrence rate was 17.7% and in more
than 4
positive LN metastasis, the recurrence rate was 81.8%.
As for the postoperative adjuvant therapy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy (RT) and RT with chemotherapy was performed in 25 cases(32.8%), 2 cases (2.6%), 6 cases(7.9%) respectively.
The follow up was possible in 37 cases(48.7%) in which recurrence sign was seen in 16 cases (42.3%)
There were 2 cases recurred within l year, 7 cases were recurred in 2nd year postoperatively.
In review of correlation between postoperative adjuvant therapy and recurrence, the recurrence rate in chemotherapy alone is 64.3% (disease free interval: 22 months), 60% in chemotherapy with RT(disease free interval: 27 months) and 23.5% in no
adjuvant
therapy disease free interval: 20 months).
